OBITUARY

Elizabeth Rose Wilkinson, Aunt Liz to her niece, Rose to the rest of her family and friends, left this earth to be with God on May 8, 2020, after a brief but courageous fight with COVID-19.

Rose may have been born in California, but she was raised in Houston and called it home. She attended San Jacinto High School where she was a member of the Mixed Chorus, and she grew up working alongside her family at Playland Park, the Houston Zoo, and the Coliseum. After graduating in 1956, she found her way to Bank of the Southwest in downtown Houston where she worked for 40+ years and finally retired. Rose had a firm belief in God and was a Sunday school teacher at Langwood Baptist Church for many years, and always had her niece right beside her. She was also a member of the church choir, and her beautiful voice could be heard above all others when performing a solo in the Christmas cantata. Not only was Rose gifted with a wonderful voice, but she was also an extremely talented piano player and artist. Rose married her husband, John Wilkinson, on August 26, 1999 in Las Vegas. Although they married late in life, together they traveled the county either in their RV or with her perched behind John on the back of his motorcycle. She loved spending time with him, especially camping or doing anything outdoors.

Rose is predeceased by her mother, Mable Louise Edwards, her stepfather, Robert Andrew Edwards, and her sister, Geneal Lavonne Heckman. She is survived by her husband, John Wilkinson, her niece, Debra Louise Heckman and her husband, Charles Leon Syptak, Jr., sisters-in-law (who were more like sisters) Rosa Witt, Ann Montemayor, and Mary Vastine, and countless other friends and family. Her witty sense of humor, wonderful smiles and laughter, and warm, loving hugs will be sorely missed. Heaven’s choir has gained an angel with a beautiful voice.
