Estel Dale Cook, was born October 7, 1946 in Athens, West Virginia to the late Ruby Garnet (Mullins) and Moody Camden Cook and died on Friday, September 25, 2020, at home peacefully surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He was generous and kind, with a contagious smile, and he will be missed greatly.

Estel grew up in Pineville, WV. He broke into computer programming early, writing programs on punch cards. After that, he spent nearly 40 years in the energy industry, including Eason Oil in Charleston, WV and Oklahoma City, and at SONAT and Cheniere Energy in Houston before retiring as vice president of information technology at Eagle Rock Energy.

He loved model trains and could often be found reconfiguring track layouts in the garage. He was always up for a good movie or a game of dominos. He enjoyed traveling, particularly cruises. One highlight included a six-week cruise from Galveston, TX to Singapore, with stops in Egypt, Dubai and Malaysia along the way. He loved spending summer afternoons in his swimming pool.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruby and Moody Cook; sisters Charlotte Mink, Dixie Borregaard, Sandra McAlister and Billie Cook; and bothers Douglas Edward Cook and Moody Camden Cook Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Trilla Cook; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Shannon Cook; daughter and son-in-law, Tracie and Rob Kenyon; grandchildren, Emily and Anne Cook; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Dale Ford, and numerous nieces and nephews.

  6. Our hearts are filled with sadness at Estel’s passing but at the same time filled with joy for knowing such a wonderful man. The memories are many for our best friend: riding motorcycles ( one of which the guys rebuilt in your living room floor); all the Friday and Saturday night card games (not sure who ever won or lost because we were laughing through most of them). Going to the Heart of Town to dance to the tunes of the Elvis impersonator ( and always counting straws). The best time of our lives were spent with you two and for that we are most grateful!

  7. Estel was a wonderful Father, Husband, Grandfather and will be dearly missed by many. I loved our talks when we were over at the Cook house in Kingwood. His laughter and joy was contagious. 8. Memories of family visits to WV include a very young Estel and Trilla, smiling, laughing, playing cards, always kind to a young niece. We all got older, visited less. Im glad to know he had a full and happy life, sad that it ended too soon. My thoughts are with you and the family Trilla.

  9. My Uncle Estel Cook was a very sweet man. And when he smiled his whole face lit up. What a great smile! But most of all I remember the love he showed my Aunt Trilla and his kids Matt and Tracie and their families. He was truly a family man. May you always treasure your wonderful memories of him. We love you all. And know that someday you will see him again in heaven.

  14. I will miss your smile, your compliments, our get togethers, especially our Mexican Train days/nights. You were one of the good guys! We will be there for Trilla! Love You,

  15. Memories of visiting family in WVA as a child included Uncle Estel and Trilla as a young married couple, laughing, joking, playing games, sharing stories. Always kind to a young niece.
Over the years visits were fewer, the miles got longer, we kept up through cards, pictures and phone calls. Mom and dad (Shirley and Dale) enjoyed several trips to Texas, especially for Matt and Tracy’s weddings. We are all happy to know Estel had a full and happy life. Sad he was taken from us too soon. May you rest in peace Estel.
