July 10, 1935 - February 5, 2021
“Ranger” Wayne Hamilton Bourquardez died February 5, 2021 at the age of 85 after a valiant battle with Covid-19.
Wayne was born July 10, 1935 to John and Jean Bourquardez in Baltimore, Maryland. He moved to the Houston area at the age of 3 where he grew up and later graduated from Pasadena High School in 1954. At the age of 21, Wayne joined the Marine Corp Reserve, and in 1958 joined the United States Army. A paratrooper and instructor, he served in the 11th Airborne Division and served 2 years in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge in 1961, he enrolled in the University of Houston where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and earned a business degree. Wayne told great stories of his college summers spent in Mammoth Lakes, CA where he worked for the U.S. Forest Service. On January 7, 1978, he married Kathy, and moved to Kingwood, TX. Wayne was a devoted father to his son and 2 daughters, all graduates of Kingwood High School.
The only thing Wayne loved as much as his family was the great outdoors. Over his life, he took the opportunity to travel across the United States and Canada, preferring scenic mountains, rivers, lakes, and train rides. He was an avid deer and dove hunter and some of his favorite times were spent around the campfire with family and good friends.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy; his sister Carol-Jean; daughters Melanie (and Jim) Bradshaw, Lisa (and Chuck) Gilmore, and son Brandon Wayne; grandchildren Alli and Austin Bradshaw, Madison Bourquardez, Cole, Caleb and Bryan Moore, and Kayley Gilmore all of Kingwood, TX.
A visitation will be held on Friday February 26, 2021 at Darst Funeral Home from 9:30am to 10:30am, with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 10:30am.
