OBITUARY

Mary Alyce Schofield Mitchell, age 87, passed away on February 15, 2021 at her home in Kingwood, Texas.  Born on November 20, 1933 in Kansas City, Kansas, she was the second child of William and Alyce Schofield.  As a child, she attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and as a teenager, she attended Bishop Ward High School, both in the Kansas City, Kansas area.

For the last 48 years she has resided in the Houston, Texas area.  Her primary career of 26 years was with Memorial Hermann Southwest as an Admissions Administrator.  After retiring she moved to the suburbs to be closer to family and watch her grandchildren grow up.  Known to many as “Ma”, she loved her family and would brag about them to anyone who would listen (especially about her grandchildren).  She was proceeded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Smith; brother -in-law, George Smith; and aunts and uncles.  She is survived by her children, Jeff (Janette) Mitchell and Alison (Dave) Swayne, many nieces and nephews, Susan (Elliot) Teters, Jeanine (Lyle) Lauritsen, Carolyn Ellis, Donald (Stephanie) Smith, David Smith; and her Grandchildren, Brandon Bliss, Michael Swayne and Matthew Swayne.

Service Information

A funeral mass will be held at St. Martha’s Catholic Church, 4301 Woodridge Pkwy., Porter, Texas 77365, on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 11 am.

  1. Prayers for the family. I know there are millions of wonderful memories. Mary Alyce was the sweetest soul I knew. She ALWAYS had a kind word to say and thought about everything with such sincerity. She was inspiring, generous and loving. Truly left an amazing legacy.
