OBITUARY

David Lee Hooper III

May 12, 1944 – August 13, 2021

(77 Years of a Vibrant and Fulfilled Life)

Born in New York, New York, from an early age he lived an exciting life, traveling the country with his military father, David Lee Hooper II, and his beautiful young mother Nilda.  Life circumstances separated his parents.  He would move on with his mother, who later started a new family with Mr. Joffre Lores, embracing the arrival of two sons. The new family would travel and live overseas while David was in military school, which eventually would set him on an international journey, landing him in Venezuela during his teen years.  He would eventually marry his first and now deceased wife, Maria Milagros Mathison-Hooper.  He would spend decades living in Venezuela, raising a family of two sons and one daughter, and engaging in a multitude of exciting jobs, from working in the oil fields, heading an investigative section within the nation’s judicial police branch, supervising metallurgic / steel production projects, to running a myriad of private business ventures.

During the early-1980s, he would relocate his family to Miami, Florida, to start a new chapter in an already exciting life; however, this new chapter would bring an eventual separation and divorce from his wife, his two sons joining the U.S. military and his daughter completing and graduating with a professional business degree.  This new chapter would also bring the formation of a new family by marring his surviving wife Odelaisys “Ody” and the birth of two daughters, Melanie and Natalie.  Regardless of all the joys, trials, and tribulations all families endure during life, he raised, loved, and nurtured every one of them…blessed by meeting and loving 12 grandchildren.  His legacy will forever be cemented in our hearts and souls.

On Friday, August 13, 2021, he succumbed to a 2-year plus battle with congestive heart failure.  He now rests in peace, joined by and welcomed to God’s Kingdom by all past loved ones.  He suffers no more and now has the power to guide us, protect us, and be with us–in us, today and for the rest of our physical lives, until such time we join him in Heaven.  David is survived by his wife and partner of 35 years, Ody Hooper; his 98 year-old mother, Nilda Lores; children, David Hooper the IV and wife Grisel, James Hooper and wife Sandra, Nilda Hooper Barreiro and husband Ruben, Melanie Whipple and husband Travis, Natalie Barnes and husband Keith; grandchildren, Michael, David, Daniel, Michelle, Dennis, Andrea, Veronica, Samantha, Ryann, Emmett, Easton and Rhett; brothers, Joffre Lores and wife Oneida, Vincent Lores and wife Tina.

A very special “Celebration of Life” will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Darst Funeral Home, 796 Russell Palmer Rd., Kingwood, Texas 77339.  May God blesses us all.

In lieu of flowers, to honor our beloved father’s name and beliefs, we ask that any donations be made to the Second Loves Kids Organization. This organization holds a special place in the families heart; as all donations allow for children to receive scholarships for Christian camps and retreats, so they can build a relationship with Christ.
