December 31, 1967 - December 27, 2014
Lisa Raquel Benitez passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Saturday, December 27, 2014. Lisa was born on December 31, 1967, in Houston, Texas, and is survived by her parents, Sandra and Manuel Benitez III; siblings, Missy Cadelago and Manuel (Manny) Benitez IV; nieces and nephews, Gabriella, Isabella, Zachary, Christian, and Alyssa; grandmother, Eva Benitez; and her loving partner John Hitt and their precious dog Elliott Piccone Benitez.
Lisa graduated from Klein High School in1986 and from the Art Institute of Houston in 1989. Lisa excelled in her career raising funds for charitable causes as an Event Coordinator/Manager for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and The Center for Hearing and Speech. She leaves behind many friends from her time at Foley’s/Macy’s Department Store, and The Clifford Group.
Lisa embraced diversity and advocated for others. She lived her life with a passion for the causes she believed in and supported them by volunteering on boards or committees such as: the Houston Downtown Alliance, The Human Rights Campaign, Houston Community College Central Advisory Board to the Fashion Department, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Jane’s Due Process, Houston Art Car Ball, and as a Founding Member of Planned Parenthood Young Leaders. She also volunteered for various political campaigns, art projects, Teach for America and many others.
Lisa was larger than life. She was not afraid to take a stand and advocate for her beliefs. She was funny and straight forward, but always generous and loving to all. She got involved, instead of standing by. She loved life, and everyone loved her. She was known for her amazing fashion sense and her love of the Texans.
Lisa put together many events in her life, but for some of us she was the event—the event of our lives. She will be missed.
A mass will be held to celebrate Lisa’s life Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at The Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway in downtown Houston.
Funeral: A memorial service was held on 2014-12-31 at Sacred Heart Co Cathedral.
