OBITUARY

JANET ANN (LOCANTRO) BLACK, age 67, is the daughter of Philip Marino Locantro, Sr. and Edna Louise Krause Locantro. Janet died on December 28, 2016 and was preceded in death by her father and mother and nephew, Shaun Locantro.

Janet married her high school sweetheart, Freddie J. Black. They were married 47 years and recently celebrated their 50th “goin’ steady” anniversary.

Janet was a stay-at-home mom having raised two beautiful children, Dena Marks and Dr. Lance Black. Dena is married to Kyle Marks, and they have three sons, Noah, Cole and Luke. Lance is married to Nyx Black, and they have one son, Jude.

Janet has two brothers, Philip Locantro, Jr. and Thomas Locantro.

Janet was born in New Orleans on April 20, 1949. She is a true “New Orleans Lady” complete with flare, a “Nawlins” accent and a joie de vivre.

She loved to smile, laugh and make others laugh with her.

She loved being with her friends and family, but most of all, she loved being with her grandsons.

She enjoyed shopping, traveling and a clean house.

She had a deep compassion for others and a love that knew no bounds.

Janet possessed an unfaltering faith in God and a desire to serve Him. She volunteered for Kairos prison ministry. She served as a missionary in Mexico, and she served in leadership positions in P.E.O, a Christian women’s organization to promote academic and biblical education among women. Janet volunteered her time as a Court-Appointed Advocate for abused Children. She began an effort to coordinate faith-based adoptions and foster care among all denominations of churches, however, her final months of sickness prevented her from continuing that effort. Janet was a true servant of God through her service to others.

Janet was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2014. She fought this disease through various chemo therapies, surgery and radiation for over two and a half years until it spread to her lungs, liver and spine, ultimately overwhelming her earthly body. Serving as Pallbearers: Jack Bonner, Kenneth Hall, William Harvey, Eugene Robison, James Snyder, Clarence Venables.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Janet’s honor to :
