OBITUARY

Richard “Rick” Elder Bohlen, beloved father, friend, and golfer, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2012, from the complications and effects of the neuromuscular disease ALS. He is preceded in death by his father Joseph Muriel Bohlen and his mother, Helen Gardner Bohlen. Rick is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Joey Casto; son, Michael; mother of his children, Elizabeth Compton Bohlen, all of Houston; brother and sister-in-law Chris and Diane Bohlen of Loveland, Colorado; and many extended family members and friends. Rick was born February 28, 1949 in Ames, Iowa. After graduating from the University of Iowa with a degree in accounting, he moved to Chicago where he began his career as a CPA. While there he also received his masters in taxation from DePaul University. In 1978, he transferred to Houston with the public accounting firm Arthur Young & Co. He later moved into the oil and gas industry and at the time of his death, Rick was employed with Rowan and Companies in Houston. An avid golfer, Rick moved to Kingwood in 1981, and joined the Kingwood Country Club where he enjoyed many years of tournament play. A perfect day for Rick was golf in the morning and an afternoon in the pool with his children. The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care provided by Donna O’Connor, Remy, Mellon, and Ping of Heritage Retreat Homes.
