Leon was born in Houston, Texas to Jesse Herman and Cora Marie Brown on March 1, 1936. He graduated from Charles Bennett High School in Humble, TX in 1954 and remained close with many of his classmates. After a brief stint in the Army, he graduated from Sam Houston State University. He worked in the banking industry, serving as a bank officer for both Port City State Bank and Union Bank. Leon was a quiet man with quick wit. His hobbies included maintaining the yard at his New Caney home of 40 years, listening to blues music, perfecting his eye roll at his daughters’ antics, and joining in on shenanigans anytime he could.
