OBITUARY

Ed Alan Cartwright was born July 21, 1955 in Pasadena, Texas to Ruth and Preston Cartwright and passed away June 18, 2017 in Humble, Texas. Ed and his wife, Brenda Diane Cartwright, met in Pasadena, Texas and married August 25, 1979.

Ed gave his life to the Lord in 1979. In the mid 1980s, Ed became active in the children’s ministries at Lakewood then Metro Church often using his puppeteering skills to teach the Word to children.

A devoted father, Ed coached little league baseball, and took on leadership roles in cub scouting and boy scouting where he served asAssistant Scout Master, and Scout Master for Troop 56. Through scouting, Ed was able to share his love of nature with his children while mentoring young boys and men in the community. Ed continued this mentorship through Urban Scouting even after his sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

A skilled HVAC technician, Ed purchased DJ Service Co. in 1995 which he continued until suffering a debilitating stroke in 2005. Despite his disability, he found a way to enjoy nature through feeding and watching birds.

In 2010, he embraced his role as Poppy after the arrival of his first grandchild, Luke and then again in 2012 with his second grandchild, Leia. Poppy’s love for Luke and Leia was immeasurable. His last six years on earth is a testament to his love for them. The immeasurable joy his grandchildren brought him, enabled him to overcome his daily struggles.

Ed is survived by his wife, Diane, children, James, Jessica, Jacob, Shantel, and  Lee; grandchildren, Luke and Leia; nieces and nephews James, John, Susan, Randy, Carla, Rebeca, David, Laura, Kellie, Felicia, and Katherine.

A memorial service celebrating Ed’s life will be held on Saturday June 24, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Humble Christian School, 16202 Old Humble Road, Humble, Texas 77396.
