OBITUARY

John W. Cramer, age 93, passed away at home on June 26, 2015.  He was born on the 3rd Day of November 1921 in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents Arthur S. Cramer and Mabel Nylien. He is survived by Jean Cramer his loving wife of 69 years, godson Brian W. Busico, niece Caroline Lackey and her husband Reynold, also great niece Lisa Lackey, great nephew Todd Lackey and great great nephew Adam Prouse.

John attended Lodi High School in New Jersey and lettered in football and baseball. He served as President of The Varsity Club in 1942 and was honored by being selected as the outstanding athlete in his senior year. He attended Blue Ridge College in Maryland on a football scholarship. John also attended Rutgers University in Newark, NJ graduating in 1952 with a B.S. in Business Administration.

As a proud American, John served his country on active duty in the Pacific area from 1942-46 with the U.S. Marine Corps attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In 1947 he joined VFW Post 809 in Little Ferry, NJ serving as Post Commander in 1955, followed by Bergen County Commander in 1960 and rose through the VFW ranks to become State Commander of New Jersey in 1965.

John began his working career with Standard Oil Co. in 1947 as an accountant in Elizabeth, NJ and continued with the company as it evolved into Exxon.

He was transferred from Towsen, Maryland to Kingwood, Texas in 1976. After some 35 years, he retired in 1982 as a Supervisor in the marketing Accounting section of Exxon Mobile in Houston, Texas.  In 1984, he helped organize the Exxon Retiree Club of Lake Houston and served as its President in 1986. Also following retirement, John became one of six original golfing members of the OFWW at the Kingwood Country Club.

John was an active member of the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Dept. serving as its Treasurer for 10 years. In 1991 he was honored as the Firefighter of the Year by the Department. He also became active as a volunteer at the Kingwood Medical Center in 1994 and served as Treasurer in the Gift Shop for 13 years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Darst Funeral Home, Kingwood, Tx.  Services to begin at 7 pm.

Interment will take place on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 10:30 am. at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
