Pete, as his friends and family knew him, was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1931, to Chiaffredo and Palmira Eandi, both immigrants to the U.S. from northern Italy. They traveled to America, as so many hopeful voyagers did, with no money in their pockets, but with hearts full of faith that they would find a better life in the land of the free.

As a first generation American, Pete’s Italian heritage, and the cultural richness it provided, was a centerpiece in his life. Strong family values, loyalty to loved ones, respect for all human beings, and a deep adoration for the church were the bedrock upon which his family was built. Raised in a devoutly Catholic household, Pete was instilled with a strong faith in the Lord from a young age; a faith that he held throughout his life, and one that carried him safely home after his passing.

Though he was a man of many talents, Pete began his professional career working with his hands in the terrazzo tile industry. He took pride in the edifices he constructed, and spoke fondly of his days as a novice tradesman. When the Korean War began, Pete was quick to volunteer for military service, choosing to join the daring and intrepid ranks of the U.S. Coast Guard. Taking part in many naval rescue missions, he and his comrades braved the most brutal of conditions and safeguarded the lives of countless United States maritime service members and merchant sailors alike.

Upon his honorable discharge from the USCG, Pete went to work as a tool and die maker at the Sangamo Electric Manufacturing Company. It was during this time that, on a blind date set up by a friend, Pete met the love of his life, and the woman who would be his wife, Janet Proctor. After they were married, Pete attended college at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne.  With Janet’s assistance,he became the first member of his family to earn a college degree. With his new BS in Mechanical Engineering, Pete went back to Sangamo to work in manufacturing, working his way up to senior management after Schlumberger bought the company.

During his time with Schlumberger, Pete was regarded by colleagues as a strong leader with an intimate knowledge of engineering and plant management. After many years of success in Springfield, Pete moved to Rabun County, GA.  He moved 40 plus families from Springfield, IL to Rabun County, GA.   There, he built an entirely new, 100,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant which staffed the company with local tradesmen and women, and grew the local economies in and around Rabun County. Throughout his entire career, he collaborated with some of the most gifted minds in mechanical engineering and management, including his friend and advisor, Jean Riboud, corporate executive and the CEO of Schlumberger.

Though his work was important, his greatest pride in life was his children. Rearing and guiding his daughter Gina and son Fred was always of utmost importance to Peter Eandi. This priority was matched only by his relationship with his wife, soulmate, lover, and forever friend, Janet. Together, they were one person; a single unit in constant, loving communication. As though it were a brushstroke of romantic poetry, Pete passed away one year to the day after Janet, who died in November 2017.  Both died the day before Thanksgiving…2017 and 2018, respectively.

As a grandfather, Pete’s love and adoration was once again kindled, and he owned the role of grandfather with joy and vigor. His wisdom for life, stories of the old days, or his mere presence, was always a treasure to his grandchildren.

rn

rn

To his friends and neighbors Pete was a gentleman, a learned man, and a caring giver and progressive thinker. To his children and grandchildren, he was a gentle mentor and a loving leader. To his wife, he was a humble companion and caregiver, ever-listening and ever-adoring.
