OBITUARY

Robert  “Bob” Eskridge passed away in Kingwood, TX on December 29, 2014. Bob was 68, and his death was unexpected. Bob was born in Fort Smith, AR on February 11, 1946, and was raised in DeRidder and Lake Charles, Louisiana by his mother, Eula Young Eskridge, and grandmother, Lola Young.
Bob graduated High School in Lake Charles, LA in 1964 and attended McNeese State University, where he met the love of his life, Earlene Stokes, in the Baptist Student Union. It was love at first sight over a game of foosball, and they married in June 1966, with Bob later graduating in 1969
Bob and Earlene have two children, Carey Monroe and Todd Everette, who wrestled in the ditch and fought each other in secrecy, but who are two of the most amazing brothers you have ever seen today.
Bob served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1975. He spent the majority of his professional life practicing as a human resources director, with coursework at St. Mary’s University, but his true calling was serving as a minister and as a mentor to men in the Second Baptist Church, North Campus.
Bob was a devoted servant to Christ, and was beloved by all whom he knew. In addition to leading the men’s ministry in Second Baptist’s Ironmen and Watchmen programs, he also served on the New Member team, welcoming those who had recently accepted the Lord into the Faith. Bob has mentored countless individuals, and the word that comes to mind when remembering him is simply: compassion. True and pure compassion.
Bob is survived by his wife Earlene, sons Carey and Todd, daughter-in-law Christina, granddaughter Lola, his brother and his wife, Wayne and Tommy Lynn, as well as members of the families Barber and Young.
Bob was a devoted husband, and one of the greatest joys in life was making egg gravy and pancakes for his family. He was a notorious early bird, and woke up before everyone including the dogs and the later birds, but he always had a pot of coffee, a cup, and a spoon, laying out on a napkin for his bride. Bob was the happiest when he was spending time with family and friends, of whom there are many, and his granddaughter Lola was the apple of his eye; she called him Pop.
Bob will be honored with a visitation at Darst Funeral Home (796 Russell Palmer Road, Kingwood, TX 77339) Thursday evening, January 1 from 6-8 PM. His celebration of life will be held at Second Baptist Church, North Campus (22770 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339) on Friday, January 2, starting at 11 AM. Bob will be buried at the Houston National Cemetery (10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX, 77038) on Monday, January 5, at 11:15 AM.
