Gianukos, John S

John Samuel Gianukos was a Senior Draftsman and a father of 6 children.  John was born November 18, 1928 to Rose Mary (Battaglia) Gianukos and Sam Gianukos in Houston, Texas. John had one older sister, Fofo Shaw.  John grew up in Houston.  He attended college to learn about drafting and that began his lifelong career of drafting and design.  At age 24, John enlisted in the Army to serve during the Korean War.  John served from August 13, 1952 until August 5, 1954 when he was honorably discharged as a Corporal.  During the war, John acted as a Construction Surveyor for the Army Engineers and also served as an extra in a Hollywood film called “Baptism of Fire.” John returned to work in refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants when he was discharged.

On April 27, 1956, John married Betty Jo Wilborn.  The couple had two children, Sam and Kelly.  Later, after divorce from John, Betty Jo passed away on August 16, 1970.

rn

On April 22, 1976, John married Margaret Anne Boyanton.  The couple had four children: Mari, John, Jeanne and Nikolus.   The couple divorced in 1984.

rn

John worked for Jim Brown & Associates for years as a draftsman in various chemical plants.  John lived in Pasadena close to the refineries he worked in.  He had a love of cooking and even though the four course meal could take 5 hours, he prepared amazing food for anyone willing to wait.  John was a shrewd chess player and taught many people the game.  John loved to crab and make bologna sandwiches on the beach.  His stuffed crab cannot be duplicated.  His children have fond memories of crabbing at the beach.  One time, his son, John captured more than 100 hermit crabs on a crabbing trip.  John travelled during the war but got to travel Greece and Italy with his son, Sam. He also got to travel to Kuwait to visit Jeanne and Nik.

rn

John retired at 70 years of age from working.  As his health and his ability to care for himself declined, Sam purchased the house next door to his home and moved his Dad into the Heights.  In the early days, John assisted Sam with some drawings for his business and was still pretty active.  When he lost his ability to drive after his stroke, John would still walk to the Shiloh Club and often get rides home from strangers.  In Sam’s backyard, John spent a lot of time watching Hank retrieve the pool cleaner from the bottom of the pool and fighting about how you need to put onions in the red sauce.

rn

John had a lifelong quest to grow an avocado tree.  He always had an avocado seed in the window.  He may have successfully planted one at his home in the Heights.  John has left behind six prosperous, loving children and many grandchildren and now great grandchildren.

rn

John is survived by his sister Fofo Shaw and Samuel John Gianukos(son), Kelly Jo Stanley(daughter) and Raymond Wesley Stanley and their children: Crystal Ann (granddaughter) & Michael Sean Wilson and their children: Audra Ann Wilson and Hayden Sean Wilson(great grandchildren) and Landry Wesley Stanley(grandson) and Kourtney Nicole Stanley and their children: Kooper Wesley Stanley, Karsyn Nicole Stanley and Kodie Michelle Stanley(great grandchildren), Mari Gianukos Veldekens(daughter), and her children: Ella Victoria Veldekens and Evan Marcel Veldekens, John Samuel Gianukos(son) and Traci Sue Gianukos, and their children: Dimitry Nikolus Gianukos, Aiden Clyde Archer, Aaron Carl Archer, Jeanne Al-Failakawi (daughter) and her children: May Talal Al-Failakawi and Fawaz Al-Failakawi, Nikolus Dimitry Gianukos (son) and Lisa Anne Gianukos and their children:  Theoni Anne Gianukos and Althea Rose-Lee Gianukos.
