Cynthia Swee Tee Goh of Houston, TX, formerly of Corona, CA, Singapore, and PJ, Malaysia, passed away unexpectedly on October 3, 2017.  Beloved daughter of the late Henry and Bibiana Goh.  Beloved oldest sister of Tarcisius Goh of Australia, Rose Goh of Phoenix, AZ, Joe Goh and his wife Irma of Houston, TX, Agnes Cammarata and her husband Frank of Southborough, MA, Francis Goh and his wife Mikyong of Fullerton, CA, and Michael Goh of Seattle, WA.  Dear loving aunt of Ben, Patrick, Andrew, Edmund, Alexandra, David, Brandon, Alyssa, and Peter.

Even though, Cynthia was taken from us too early she did live her life to the fullest.  She traveled all over the world, visiting Australia with her mother and brother, and Asia and Europe as a chaperone for her students.  She dedicated her whole life to her family and she did everything that she could to make sure that her parents and all of her younger siblings could have a great life.  She financially supported five of them while they went to the United States and Australia to further their education.

rn

Cynthia was born on September 21, 1950 in Penang, Malaysia.  She attended Bukit Nanas Convent in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from Standard One to Form Six and received her GCE in 1967 and HSC in 1969.  In 1975 she graduated with Honors, from the University of Malaya with a BA (English) and went on to obtain her Diploma of Education so she could become a teacher.   She began her career in education in 1969 as a teacher at the Willow Avenue Secondary School in Singapore.  Cynthia took a short leave of absence to attend the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Australia and obtained a Graduate Diploma in Librarianship in 1980.

rn

Cynthia was hired by the Clementi Town Secondary School, Singapore in 1989.  She became a Vice Principal in 1991 of the prestigious Raffles Girls School in Singapore.  She continued her education while working and obtained a Master of Education from Nanyang Technical University, National Institute of Education, Singapore in 1994.  Next, she was hired as Principal of Zenghua Secondary School, Singapore in 1999.  She was the founding Principal and it was under her guidance that the school”s crest, song, motto, creed, mission and vision were established.

rn

Unfortunately, her career had to be put on hold when her father became very ill and she decided to take care of him.  She retired as School Principal in 2002 and immigrated to the United States to look after him.  While in Corona, CA, Cynthia, who never lost her love of teaching, took and passed the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) in 2004.  However, she was never able to return to a career in education because of her father’s illness.

rn

For the past 15 years, Cynthia devoted her life to lovingly caring for our father, and gifting the rest of her siblings the time to build their own families and lives. Her dedication was such that she never once complained or gave up on our father, tirelessly nursing him back to health countless times over the years.  She never faltered, and yet still found the energy and love to support the rest of us… quietly in the background providing help in so many ways, and yet never asking for anything in return. The well-being of her parents, siblings, and nieces and nephews were her life and priorities. We owe her everything…

rn

Cynthia will be remembered as a loving and caring sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.

  1. Dear Ms Goh, I have always been searching for traces of you online but to no true success. Something nudged me to try again today. And here I am, many years too late.

It has been a true privilege for me to be a student under your care at Zhenghua secondary. An educator myself now, I look back at the warmth and sincerity you led the school and I can only thank my lucky stars our paths crossed. You played a pivotal role in my development as a young adult and I can only strive to be the best version of myself, to serve my students the way you did.

My deepest condolence to the family. Rest in peace Ms Goh. I am eternally grateful for all the love you gave, without judgement and without limit. God bless.

Leave A Condolence
