Edna Erle Spruill Grasty was born November 22, 1925 in Grapeland, Texas. Her family moved to Palestine, TX when she was 6 years old. She graduated from Palestine High School and Nixons Business College. She was the daughter of W.C. (Carl) and Eula Mae Shaver Spruill. In 1943 she met and fell in love with Arno Grasty, while he was home on survivors leave from the U.S. Navy. They married and spent 54 of their 59 ½ years together in Houston. She was active in Woodland Christian Church, serving as Sunday School teacher many years. She worked 17 years in the PTA, holding many offices, plus 2 consecutive years as President. She was a life member of the PTA, also, a life member of the VFW Auxillary #581. Her husband, Arno, predeceased her in 2002. She is survived by her children, Steven and Karen Grasty of Porter, Kathryn and Terry Golden of Spring and Cynthia and Randy Robbins of Houston; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Forest Walton of Lake Jackson; sister-in-law, Augusta Killion of Palestine and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Assoc., or charity of your choice. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Houston National Cemetery on Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston, Texas.
