OBITUARY

Cyrus Wayne “Fatdaddy” Hughes, age 62, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 while surrounded by family at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas.  Fatdaddy was welcomed into this world September 12, 1953, in Hobbs, New Mexico by Cyrus Thadeaus and Sarah Josephine (Stroud) Hughes and nourished everyone he met, body and soul, with his culinary brilliance and unconditional love, until he left it.  He attended M.B. Smiley High School and shortly after joined the Army, serving until honorably discharged in 1974 from Ft. Hood. He owned and operated Southern Custom Cabinets and Trim before retiring and participating in as many cook-offs as possible. While he enjoyed watching ball games and the rodeo, black-powder gun hunting in New Mexico, and relentlessly teasing his family and friends, his truest passion was seeing his family and friends come together, while standing over a smoker, surveying all that he loved.  His quick wit, coveralls and big heart were his most beloved traits.

  1. Wayne Hughes was a great friend that I tried to stay in touch with over the years. I served with him and lived in the same barracks in the army with him. He always called me kid because I joined at 17. I have fond memories of him and he will always be my friend. He took me home many times to Tomball and I met several of his brothers. He was a good man and I wish I could meet his kids someday. 720-880-8367
