Rev. Dr. LCDR Richard A. “Jake” Jacobson age 75 of Kingwood, Texas passed away at home on September 21st, 2018 from Pulmonary Fibrosis and Emphysema.

 He was born March 15, 1943 in Fargo, North Dakota. His parents were Clarence M. and Vida M. Jacobson. Jake attended a number of schools during his father’s Army military service. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served 13 years enlisted duty. He married the love of his life, Joanne V (Barnett) on December 29, 1961 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

 He left the Navy to complete his college education and pursue his Master of Divinity Degree at Wesley Theological Seminary. He was a student pastor to the United Methodist Charge, Oldtown, Maryland. In 1978 he received an appointment beyond the local church to serve as a United Methodist Chaplain in the U.S. Navy. Appointments in the Navy were to Commander Destroyer Squadron Seven; Naval Training Station San Diego, CA; Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa, Japan; post graduate school Southern Methodist University Dallas, TX; Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL. He retired from the Navy in 1989 with 24 years of service in the grade of Lieutenant Commander.

 He transitioned back to the local church – serving in nearly all settings of ministry from small to large churches and many administrative settings including, the Blackfeet United Methodist Church in Browning, Montana serving Native American congregations; the Abingdon United Methodist Charge in Abingdon, MD; The Way West United Methodist Parish in the Panhandle of Nebraska; and the Tecumseh/Sterling Charge in Eastern Nebraska. He became Executive Director of Finance and Administration/Conference Treasurer for the Nebraska Conference in Lincoln, NE. His last assignment was as the North West District Superintendent of Nebraska.

 He is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter Dawn Mehan and her husband Lee; son John Jacobson and his wife Michelle; Five granddaughters – Gwen Mehan, Paige Eggleston, Lacey Maul, Laura Furnivall, and Tarra Rathburn; Five great grandchildren – Ember, Clancy, Harper, Quinn and Jamari; and his brother, Joseph Jacobson.

 He is predeceased in death by his parents and daughter Holly Ellsworth.

 The Memorial Service will be held at Kingwood United Methodist Church – 1799 Woodland Hills Drive Kingwood, TX 77339 on September 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Reception following the service at 3:00 pm.

 His interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery Washington, D.C.
