OBITUARY

In Loving Memory of Josephine Navarro Perez

Josephine Navarro Perez, age 76, was called home by our Heavenly Father on June 20, 2022, in Houston, Texas. She was a woman of deep love for the Lord and the Church.  Her trust in God sustained her during her health struggles for fifteen years. Josephine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was blessed to have a supportive and loving family and friends. Josephine treasured spending time with her husband Jim, daughter Minerva, son-in-law Andrew, and grandchildren Andrew and Madison. She was always supportive of their academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and professional endeavors. She always strived to create special memories through her loving ways, especially on birthdays and holidays. Her faith, courage, and determination were an inspiration to all those who witnessed her accomplishments and overcoming the health struggles throughout her life. She was a pillar of strength for her family and friends. Josephine was a compassionate woman and always willing to offer her support. She was a generous soul who always helped those in need. She strived to improve the opportunities for better education, employment, and safe communities by volunteering as a grassroots community activist in her young adult years. She was a champion for the little guy in hopes that people from all walks of life would have the opportunity to obtain the American Dream. Josephine had a big dream and her legacy has been passed on to her family and community and they are reaping the rewards of the sacrifices made by her generation for generations to come.

Josephine was a longtime parishioner of St. Martha Catholic Church in Kingwood, Texas, and founded the Hispanic Ministry for the Parish under the direction of Rev. Terrance Brinkman, Pastor.  Her greatest joy was planning the Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast Day Celebration for the entire parish.  It was an opportunity to celebrate Our Lady and share her Marian devotion with the parish.  Josephine’s strong faith in God led her to discern to the Order of Carmel Discalced Seculars and she celebrated her clothing on September 9, 2000, made her first promise on December 20, 2003, and made her definitive promise on August 30, 2008.  She served her Carmel community as the Formation Director until she became unable to serve due to her illness.  She always offered her support and encouragement through her daily prayers. She was an example of what a true mother should be and what we will strive to achieve. Her zest for life would always bring smiles to all those around her. Yes, she was the life of the party.  Josephine will be forever missed by her husband, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, friends, and all who had the pleasure to know her.

Josephine was born on March 19, 1946, in Houston Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Antonio C. Navarro and Juanita Navarro, grandmother Clemencia Montalvo, and her son Jim-Joseph Perez. She is also preceded in death by her siblings Dolores Torres, Minerva Navarro, Julio Navarro, Lionel Navarro, and Alice Navarro.  Josephine is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years Jim Perez, loving daughter Minerva Romo and spouse Andrew Romo, and her grandchildren Andrew Scott Romo and Madison Ashley Romo.  She also leaves behind her surviving siblings Alice Villarreal, Emily Santos, Yolanda N. Flores, Anthony Navarro, Joe Navarro, and spouses with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  Josephine had a special friend Cecilia Diaz, a surrogate sister who provided extraordinary care and friendship throughout her long illness.  We also wish to thank her medical care team for providing extraordinary care to Josephine – Dr. Mohammed Attar, Dr. Ronald Ralph, Dr. Eric Peden, and Dr. Austin O. Williams.  We also want to thank US Renal staff Fred, Maggie, and Liz for caring for Josephine for the past eight years.

  1. Minnie and family,
You already know how much we love your Mother. She continues to be a light of Christ in our lives, an angel to all degrees on earth and in Heaven. She is and has always been an inspiration. God is good. All the time. He knew the impact she would have on us all and all for His glory! Amen! Amen! Amen!

“May the choirs of angels come to great her, may they bring her to paradise. May the Lord enfold her in His Mercy. May He bring her eternal life.”

There is no doubt in my mind that she is with Christ. No doubt at all.

All my love and prayers. God bless and look favorably upon you all.

  2. What a beautiful woman! My heart goes out to the family. I know you will miss her very much but she will always be in your heart…where love never ends. GOD BLESS Josephine and her precious family.

  3. The discalced Carmelite secular community of The Most Holy Trinity and St. Joseph extends its sincere condolences to Josie’s family and friends. We are praying for her and for you all.

  4. No doubt Josie was welcomed with opened arms to heaven. She was my Guardian Angel on earth. I know God placed her in my life. She took me under her wing, and gave me advice and direction. She was intelligent, selfless, kind, loyal, a beautiful person. I’m so appreciative and grateful, more than words can ever say. I am so thankful and proud to have had her for a friend. I will miss our conversations, her voice and laughter. I will miss her dearly.

  5. The Most Holy Trinity Order of Carmel Discalced Seculars extends its heartfelt condolences to Jim, Minerva and all the family. Josie was a member of our community and a bright star among us. She loved our Lord and Master and her Holy Mother Mary as well as her Carmelite faith. She has now passed through the veil into eternity where God has prepared a place for her. May He welcome her to her eternal home where there is only love and joy. Our prayers continue to be with you. May God sustain you with his grace and bless you.

  6. Though my heart is truly broken and saddened, at the same time i feel i know my loving sister Josephine is in a state of grace with God. I can vision her humbly worshipping Jesus’ to his crown, heart and feet. We pray for her to reach that pinnacle in her strife to God where she can be with him. She was a beautiful soul, family, friend, sibling, daughter, mother and wife. Full of love others and a very strong faith, we pray she has ascended to heaven, close to God.
I will miss you my loving sister, i will be strong like you for you. May the Angels escort you on your long swift journey to God. May God be with you and rest your soul, i love you Jojo, i miss you.

  7. My heart is broken to a million pieces.
Josie was so kind and sophisticated and taught me how to be civilized. I was a bad kid and fought all the time. Josie took me under her wing and helped me to know God and that kindness begets kindness. Josie was an Angel. I never saw her angry. I decided to be like her and that made a difference in my future. I am ill and I can’t go say goodbye. My condolences to each and every member of the Navarro family.

  8. Tia JoJo was very special to my husband Larry Flores throughout his life! She is a true believer and spoke about her faith and love of God to us and our children every chance she got! We appreciated her support and positivity in our family’s celebrations. She would show up at an outdoor high school track meet, baptism, Quinceanera, grad party, or any holiday. Our most outspoken supporter. No illness could keep her down. Best Aunt Ever! We love her and thank God for putting her in our lives. A shining example to follow.

  9. We are deeply saddened by the loss of Josephine, we will always remember her lovely smile and loving heart. Our prayers for her entire family, may God strengthen you and give you peace during this time and the days to come. It is always difficult and heartbreaking losing a loved one, but may you have peace in your hearts, knowing that she is walking and dancing on streets of gold….God Bless

  10. Minnie and family…Such a lovely funeral Mass for your Mom…her name could be CHARITY. Thank you for your family’s many gifts to the Catholic community…enjoyed seeing you over the years with your Mom at St Martha. Sending love…

  11. “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God”. Matthew 5:8 (The Sermon on the Mount; The Beatitudes)
Jesus himself made this promise, so we know it is fulfilled for Josie. I pray these few words are of comfort for her entire family.

    Requiescat in pace…

  12. I am deeply saddened by the passing of Josie. I met Jim and Josie 37 years ago, when I was on the same baseball team as their son Jim Joseph. She was full of love, laughter, and a sense of humor. She was also straightforward and honest. Her cooking paralleled that of a fine restaurant. When I needed help the most, during an hour of need, both Jim and Josie welcomed me as family, into their home, until I was able to get onto my feet. It was an act of love that I thank them for and will never forget. She set an example for me of how to love and help others. Josie had faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am at peace, with confidence, knowing that she entered into His eternal presence in her now glorified body.

May Jim, Minnie, Andrew, Andrew Scott, and Madison and their families have the peace and the strength daily, to move forward, until the day they reunite.

2 Corinthians 5:8 – To be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD.

John 14:2-3 – In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

  13. Jojo would come to my basketball games and i appreciate she did driving all the way out there to come see me play and im thankful she supported me even though i didn’t see her often

  14. Dear Sydnie,
Thank you for your sweet note. She loved going to watch you play basketball. Keep scoring for Tia JoJo.
    Love,
    Minnie

  15. Thank you Misti. Please know she loved you and your entire family very much as we do too. God bless you always.
