May 17, 1996 - October 26, 2012
Roman began his life on the morning May 17th, 1996 in Akron City Hospital. Coincidentally his Father, Steven, was born in the very same hospital 29 years before. The first few years of Roman’s life were spent living in a small home in Kent, Ohio. He was cared for by a family friend, Lori Shark, and his Grandparents, Nana and Gigi, while his mother and father continued with their careers. Roman was an inquisitive boy who took a liking to Mighty Machine Videos, a white rotary-dial phone, and all things construction. Back-hoe, bulldozer, and truck were some of his earliest words.
Two years later Roman moved to Michigan where he spent the next five years of his life. It was there that he was introduced to the sport of golf. He took some early lessons at a driving range and this, perhaps, started Roman on the path which eventually led him play on the Kingwood High School Golf Team. Golf wasn’t Roman’s only interest. In 2003 Roman moved with his family back to Ohio and was enrolled in St. Mary’s School in Massillon, Ohio. While there he developed new interests, friendships, and started on the journey of Scouting. He joined Pack 903 where he learned about being loyal, trustworthy, kind, courteous, and many other traits that served him well during his brief life. His younger brother loved and idolized Roman for this very reason. It was through the Cub Scouts that he met fellow scout and good friend Ben Garton. Roman also continued learning how to play golf by attending numerous summer camps at The Sanctuary Golf Club.
In 2008 Roman and his family left Ohio and relocated to Kingwood in Texas, a community about 30 miles northeast of Houston. Upon arrival he quickly became part of St. Martha Catholic Boy Scout Church Troop 727 where he learned to serve the public and the Scouting tradition in numerous ways. With the support of many scouts, parents, relatives, and countless adult leaders such as Brian Claassan, Ted Gabel, Mike McDonald, Roman attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Roman continued to develop his golfing skills through the Riverwood Middle School golf program and eventually earned a spot on the Kingwood High School Golf Team under the tutelage of Coach Jeff Bellnap. Roman continued to serve others by being a volunteer leader in St. Martha’s EDGE youth ministry. He often led the EDGE activities, meetings, and retreats to which his younger brother Ian attended.
In such a short life Roman was so much to so many: friend, leader, servant, role-model, golfer, son, and brother. He is and will continue to be missed by those lives he touched, too many to be named. We love you Roman and you will be remembered fondly by all who knew you.
