OBITUARY

Leokadya Mary Korczykowski was a woman for whom actions would speak louder than words. She was also the kind of person who could respect a “do not disturb” sign, whether it was real or implied. Leokadya was a strong, clear communicator who excelled at eliminating confusion by making matters crystal clear to all those involved. All those who knew her appreciated this trademark quality.

Her parents were Karol and Antonina Posluszny. Leokadya was raised in the East Side of Buffalo, New York with nine siblings. The oldest was brother Tony then Pearl, Stella, Emily, Edward, Frank and two younger Art and Agnes. During her childhood she loved to help after school and with church events. She spent much time with the Nuns who would treat her to candy. She went to Corpus Christi Catholic School and even wanted to be a nun when she was young. Leokadya was often chosen to recite in Polish at church functions. Her favorite class in high school was sewing at the Warzecha School of Dressmaking Often she would take a cast-off garment and redesign it into a new fashion. She chose this as her profession.

She married Louis Joseph Korczykowski on Thanksgiving Day in 1944 and was blessed with four children; Larry, Paula, Jim and Carl. They were also blessed with six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two on the way.

Leokadya had the ability and the determination to do what was necessary to get the job finished. Leokadya was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite teams whenever she got the opportunity. Tops on her list were football and tennis. Favorite vacation spots included Florida where she and Louis spent winters at their home in West Palm Beach.
