Thomas James Laws passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 after fighting leukemia for the past 2 years.  Tom was born February 20, 1927 to Pauline “Mattie” Laws and Thomas Judson Laws in Broken Arrow, Ok.  He graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1945. He then enlisted in the US Navy and after basic training at Great Lakes he was assigned to US Naval Hospital in San Diego where awaited ordered to invade the Japanese mainland. These orders never came and WWII in the Pacific ended. He received his honorable discharge and returned home to Oklahoma where he met and married the love of his life, Shirley Jane Johnson on June 5, 1949. rn

The Korean War disrupted their lives in October 1950 when Tom was recalled by the Navy and was shipped out to join UN forces. He was assigned to the 1st Division, 5th Regiment, D Company USMC as a corpsman. He fought bravely at the Chosin Reservoir. After his return he had a long career as a mortician and ran his casket company past his 87th birthday.

Tom is preceded by his sibling: George, Robert and Anna.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 67 years, Shirley Jane Laws; son,Thomas J. Laws, Jr. and his wife Robbie; son, David Glen Laws and wife Janice; daughter, Rebecca Ann Laws and husband Leonardo Santarpia, grandson, Derek Laws and wife Sara; granddaughter, Vanessa Derder and husband Sami Derder, grandson, Jason Laws and wife Jacquline; granddaughter, Melody Santarpia and six great-grandchildren: Grant, Davis, Jacob, Sofia, Mina, and Jaxson.

The family would like to thank Swaminathan Lyer, M.D. and all of the staff at The Methodist Hospital, especially those on the 8th Floor Main for all of the loving care they extended to the Pillar of our Family.

Service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Darst Funeral Home, 796 Russell Palmer Rd, Kingwood, TX, 77339
