Joseph Ivan Matthews, 71, passed away peacefully Monday June 1, 2015, at home surrounded by his family.

“Joe” was born Oct 25, 1943 in Livingston Texas to Esther and Chloe Matthews.

He married Linda “Darlene” Johnson on April 10, 1970.

He retired from Eastman-Kodak in 1987 after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis after which he dedicated his life to his family and community.

He was passionate about protecting those with handicaps, and was instrumental in the passage of “The Joe Matthews
City Ordinance” in which it is unlawful to block handicapped parking spaces.

He loved people. Joe never met a stranger and was the kindest, most loving, practical joker that everyone was
better for knowing.

He was predeceased by his father, Esther Matthews, and sister, Mildred Keith.

He is survived by his mother, Chloe Matthews, wife, Darlene Matthews, son, Mark Matthews, son, Heath Matthews
and wife Heather, daughter, Tona Ottinger and husband Mark, daughter, Rhonda Castongue, foster daughter Jessie
Tran and husband Fred, sister, Donna Nors, 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins,
nephews, nieces, and special friends.
