Kent Karl McCrary, known as Karl, age 57, was born in Lufkin, Texas. He grew up alongside his six brothers and one sister, and graduated from C.E. King High School in 1979. Karl was a member of the baseball team and National Honor Society.
In 1982, he married Melissa Duncan (ex-spouse since 2009) and shortly thereafter had their firstborn son, Nathan Kent McCrary in 1986, followed by their daughter, Cassie Denae McCrary in 1989. Karl was very involved in his kids’ life, serving as a baseball, basketball, football, and soccer coach. For 20 years, Karl was an operator at Bayer Chemical plant, and also served on the fire brigade for the company before becoming permanently disabled. Karl and Melissa also owned a cleaning business on the side for many years. In 1994, Karl moved his family to his childhood hometown of Huffman, Texas, where they bought their family home. He has been a resident of Huffman ever since that time.
In 1999, Karl had a trip-of-a-lifetime in Israel, where he was baptized in the Jordan River. In 2005 and 2007, Karl was thrilled when his son and daughter became the first generation in his family to attend college. He taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, led the Youth Praise & Worship Team, ministered to prison inmates, was a team prayer member at KSBJ, was awarded a Lay Minister at Calvary Christian Fellowship, and donated to many churches and ministries. Most importantly, he walked close to the Lord God on a daily basis. Karl was volunteering up until the last month of his life. Karl loved to sing for Jesus and was frequently caught humming a Christian gospel tune, and the occasional Elvis song. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face and a positive thing to say to you. Karl was well-known for his generous heart and was frequently giving of his time and money to missionaries and those in need.
Karl is survived by his brothers Wayne McCrary, Cecil McCrary, Darl McCrary, Ty McCrary, his son and daughter Nathan and Cassie McCrary and his ex-spouse Melissa Duncan.
