OBITUARY

James T. McMillen was a champion of consumer rights across the nation for forty years.  His legal work included several landmark cases, such as In re Smithwick, 121 F3d 211 (5th Cir. 1997), and In re Mendoza, 111F3d 124 (5th 1997).  He was an active member of several legal groups , including the State Bar of Texas, National Association of Consumer Advocates,  and the Trial Lawyers College.  He was a kind man who would give someone the shirt off his back.  He was a loving father and grandfather.  He was born on March 4, 1942 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and died in Houston, Texas on April 1, 2015.  He is survived by his son, Shayne Brandon McMillen, his daughter Rachel Leeanne Grier and her husband, Jason D. Grier and their children, Isabella, Micah and Juliet, his former wife, Elaine McMillen, and numerous cousins.  Jim touched many people’s hearts and lives including his friends in the consumer law field.  Services will be held on April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 2929 Woodland Hills Dr., Kingwood, Texas 77339.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to be made to National Association of Consumer Advocates or the Trial Lawyers College.
