OBITUARY

Jessie “Yah” Modene McQuary died in her sleep in Brookdale Nursing home in Kingwood, Texas on March 28, 2016. She was 97 years old and had been a longtime resident of Pleasanton, Texas where she and Bill “Mac” had retired after raising a family, working and traveling all over the world.

She was the youngest of seven children born to Zachariah and Fannie Jennings in Clinton, Arkansas. She grew up on the family farm and was raised with the strong values of a small typical town in a farming community. She went away to Little Rock where she received an associate degree in business and went to work for the State Health Department. There she was Executive Secretary for the Director and met and married Mac. They had two children, Bill and Ray and started on their whirlwind tour of the world.

Mac was an officer in the U.S. Public Health Service which had them stationed in Washington, D.C., Kansas, West Virginia, Vermont, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela, Vietnam and Thailand. Of course, they traveled and vacationed in many more countries and places in between.

Jessie and Mac never really retired but turned their attention to building a home and raising registered Beefmaster cattle. Besides keeping up with Mac, Jessie was an avid bridge player, accomplished artist who painted over 40 oils, and was very active in the Methodist Church. It seems like her only regret was not winning all the bridge tournaments that she entered.

rn

She was an example to others in so many ways, particularly after Mac and Bill’s passing. She continued living by herself but had family visiting so often that it was as if she was running a bed and breakfast every weekend.

rn

rn

She never asked for anything special in life other than having a loving family, being a good friend and neighbor and being allowed to help out whenever she could. Even to the end, people were not disappointed in any of the above.

rn

rn

Obviously, Jessie had a long and interesting life that has been a blessing to her family and all that knew her. She is survived by her son Ray, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

rn

rn

She and Mac can now be back together.
