Theodore Wells Oppel was born September 23, 1933 in Milwaukee,Wisconsin and peacefully passed away on April 26,2018 among family in Kingwood, Tx. Ted was a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. and M. S in geology. At the university he met his wife Jo Oppel and many life long friends.
After college and military service Ted began his oil and gas career. It began in the oil of New Mexico and west Texas where Jo and Ted started there family which eventually brought them to Houston.
Ted was on the forefront of international exploitation and enjoyed a long and distinguished career. He traveled the world, experienced many adventures as well as a number of interesting people.
Ted always found time for his family. His family always came first.
Ted retired shortly after his beloved wife passed in 1999. In retirement he enjoyed family events, playing golf and traveling. He was fortunate to find a friend, Dana, to share his love of travel.
Ted will be remembered as a rare combination of strength, compassion for for family first and unwavering love for life.
Ted is predeceased by his son Jeffrey Wells Oppel, wife Cynthia. His daughter Leslie Jo Fairchild and husband Nick. Three grandchildren, Crysta Marie Dillashaw and her husband Brad, Savannah Jo Oppel and Zachery Wells Fairchild.
A celebration of life and fellowship will be held in a garden ceremony at Darst Funeral Home, 796 Russell Palmer Rd., Kingwood,Tx. From 2:00 to 4:00 Saturday May, 5 2018.
