Keith Palmer Pensom was born September 19, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA and passed away May 8, 2018 in Kingwood, TX at the age of 79. He was born to William E. and Charlotte Pensom and spent his formative years in Pittsburgh, graduating from Mount Lebanon High School. He went on to attend the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT graduating in 1960. In 1966 he married Susanne Mary Mettle from Baltimore, Maryland. Keith served a distinguished career in the U.S. Coast Guard spanning 30 years that included sea service aboard the Coast Guard Cutters BLACKTHORN, SEABAGO, HAMILTON, and CHASE. On August 9, 1983 Captain Keith P. Pensom assumed command of the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office, Corpus Christi. Captain Pensom was awarded the Coast Guard Commendation Medal with the Operational Distinguishing Device twice, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal with Operational Distinguishing Device and National Defense Service Medal. After retiring from the Coast Guard in 1990, Keith worked for Exxon and Sea River as a consultant in marine safety. Keith and wife, Susanne raised two children, Keith Jr. and Heather. Susanne passed away in 1995. In 1997 he reconnected with Katherine “Kit” Overmyer, a widow herself, who Keith knew in high school. For the past 21 years, Keith and Kit enjoyed life together and traveled the world. Keith was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and companion. He was a blessing to his family and will be dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his wife, Susanne Mary Pensom and parents, William E. and Charlotte Pensom. He is survived by his son, Keith P. Pensom, Jr.; daughter, Heather Diane Pensom; grandsons, Chase Pensom, Hunter Pensom, Max Lucas and Palmer Pensom; granddaughters, Madeleine Lucas and Madison Pensom; sister, Jane Kaiser; niece, Susan Kaiser and longtime partner, Katherine Ellen Overmyer.
Funeral: A funeral service was held on 2018-05-11 at Kingwood United Methodist Church.
