Piper, Anna M

Anna Marie Mango Piper was born in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, where she spent much of her early years.  The family later moved to upstate New York where she graduated from Hornell High School.  Following high school she worked for an aircraft simulator factory during WWII in Binghamton, later as a bank teller and in personnel for photographic film company.  In 1955, she and her friend, Teresa Rollo, traveled to Bordeaux, France, where they were employed by an American government agency.

rn

While in France she met, fell in love with and married an American Air Force Pilot, Monte Richard Piper. They were married in the Bordeaux Air Base Chapel September 4, 1955; a marriage that lasted for over 62 years.  Following marriage, they made their home in Arcachon, France, for two years before returning to the United State with their first two children, Teresa, and Monte, Jr.  Mary, their third child was born later in Binghamton, New York.

rn

Despite having considered becoming a nun in her youth, we believe her true calling began with her marriage.  Ann soon became a mother as well as a wife and she devoted the rest of her life to the vocations of marriage and family.   No matter where we were, there were always delicious home cooked meals, a spotless, orderly home and we are convinced more love than most people ever get to experience.  She always put her children and husband’s needs before her own.  She raised all of her children in the Catholic faith and that is yet another gift we can never thank her enough for.

rn

In mid-life she discovered a talent for painting.  She enjoyed painting and left over a hundred paintings that are still being enjoyed by her family, friends and others.

rn

She loved cooking.  She was especially known for Italian dishes, many of which she learned from her Mother.  Many family gatherings were treated to the results of her skill at cooking.  She was pleased to pass on some of her specialties to her grandchildren

rn

She enjoyed travel and, as noted, one of those trips to Europe led to her marriage.   When her children were grown she and her husband traveled extensively.  She had been all of the lower 48 states, most of Canada and Western Europe from the Arctic Circle in Finland to Lands’ End in Portugal.

rn

Through it all her primary love was for her family which grew from three children to ten grandchildren and now fifteen great-children.  Her last years were brightened by getting to see and know her great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Huffman TX that was flooded during Hurricane Harvey.
