Rucka, Jerome W

Jerome Walter Rucka was born to Rudolph and Mary Buchta Rucka on June 12, 1939, in Baytown, Texas. The family moved to Crosby. After attending Crosby High School, Jerome enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in Puerto Rico and California.

He married Betty Keyes on June 3, 1967. Three daughters were born to them and they were the delight of his life until his 4 grandchildren came along and stole their thunder! He retired from DuPont Chemical Plant in 1997 after 29 years as a pipe fitter. Jerome enjoyed gardening, the grandchildren, family get-togethers, a good cup of coffee while reading the morning paper, and living out his Catholic faith. A quiet, contented person, Jerome was a tower of strength and very loved and respected by his family.

Peacefully, Jerome went home to his Savior, Jesus, on January 31, 2017 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years, Betty; daughters, Maryanne Walker (and husband Mike), Becky Rucka, and Janet Rucka-White (and husband Jeff); and beloved grandchildren, Mallory, Micaela, Noah, and Natalie; and siblings, Albert Rucka, Elizabeth Smith, Joseph Rucka, and Mary Helen Hoelscher. He was blessed with many wonderful brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and terrific nieces and nephews, including those by marriage.

The funeral Mass at St. Martha’s Catholic Church will be on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. Reception will follow the Mass at Kingwood United Methodist Church Reception Hall from 3:15-4:30 p.m. As per his request, he will be cremated.

The family thanks everyone who gave us such remarkable support after Jerome’s stroke and death. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
