Ronald Wayne Simmons, Sr., 74 of Kingwood, Texas peacefully passed away with his family surrounding him on August 13, 2018 at Plantation Estates Assisted Living. Visitation will be held Thursday August 16, 2018 at Darst Funeral Home from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on August 17, 2018 at Second Baptist Church. Pastor Mark Terry of Second Baptist Church will be officiating.

Ronald was born in Waxahachie, Texas on September 26, 1943. He graduated from Waxahachie High School and continued to the United States Marine Corps.

Ronald was married to Jackie G. Simmons (Stalter) on June 26, 1965; they were married 52 years.

Ronald touched the lives of so many young people starting at the age of 17 when he began coaching boy’s little league baseball. He went on to coach and mentor in his free time for over 25 years. He was a dedicated member of his community. He designed the Mustang logo for Kingwood High School and incorporated the color Columbia Blue into the uniforms. He was instrumental in the marketing and success of the football booster club. He designed merchandise such as jackets, stadium seats, tee-shirts, etc… which sold at Kingwood sporting events. He enjoyed playing and watching sports, hunting, carpentry and gardening. His talent had no boundaries.

Ronald was never one to be out done, creative and competitive in every way. His Christmas lights each year were truly spectacular, and he won many awards. Ron Simmons never quit. Despite his disease, he continued to work on his art in the yard, on paper and in his interaction with young people.

Ronald is survived by his two children Kristin Simmons Peete and husband Edward Peete; and Shannon M. Simmons; his 7 grandchildren Madison, Makenna, Malaney, Carter, Chandler, Kassidy, and Kaelee; his great-grandchild Nate; and the rest of his family and friends.

Ronald is preceded in death by his wife Jackie Statler Simmons; parents J.B. Simmons and Bonnie Ruth Simmons; his two brothers Jimmy Simmons and Herbie Dale Simmons; his sister Shirley Simmons Spain; and son Ronald Wayne Simmons, Jr.

The family of Ronald Wayne Simmons, Sr. wishes to thank Plantation Estates Assisted Living, Atlas Hospice, the wonderful nurses at ATC Home Healthcare, nurse practitioners at Lady with the Lamp, Darst Funeral Home, and Second Baptist Church.
