Margaret Gonzalez Vassallo, 85, of Galveston, Texas, was called to her heavenly home on August 22, 2014. She was born January 31, 1929 in Galveston, Texas to parents Joseph and Josephine Gonzalez and raised by her aunt and uncle Carmen and Augustine Gonzalez. Margaret graduated from Ball High School in Galveston. She later married husband William Vassallo in September 1949 and they were blessed with daughters Sandra, Cynthia and Teresa. Margaret served her family faithfully as a wife, mother and homemaker. After William’s death in 1966, she continued to raise her daughters with steadfast love and devotion. After they were grown, Margaret enjoyed providing childcare in her home, caring for all the children in her life as though they were her own.
Margaret leaves an extraordinary legacy of love for her family and faith in God. Her greatest joy was time spent with loved ones, cooking for them and blessing them with her nurture and care. Guided by her abiding faith in God, she lived her life with grace, joy, kindness and love.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband William, and her eldest daughter Sandra Smith. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Vassallo and husband Dr. Thomas Clegg, daughter Teresa Paone, and son-in-law Dr. Mark Smith, all of Kingwood, TX; sister Connie Vassallo of Galveston, Tx; nine grandchildren Graham, Meredith, Laura, Christina, Michael, Hannah, Maggie, Ralph and Elizabeth and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday 8/30/14 at Darst Funeral Home with the Rosary at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Galveston, Tx. on Saturday 8/30/2014 at 11:00 am with graveside service to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
